"Storage Battery"
The storage battery has always been the "Weak Link" in the electric automobiles. During the early 1930's, and perhaps the late 1920's, there were several electric car companies. At least some of them had a range of only about 20 miles.
There has been some progress, but much more needs to be done.
During WORLD WAR II there was the Manhattan Project to develop the Atomic Bomb.

Many of the best scientists were called on to do the research and do the development.
We need that same effort to develop a super battery for electric cars. This battery needs to be fairly cheap to manufacture. It needs to be small and light for the amount of energy that it will store.
Ten gallons of gasoline weighs less than 80 pounds. If a car goes 30 miles on a gallon of gas, then ten gallons of gas would run that car for 300 miles.
If a battery could be developed that weighs 80 pounds and would run a car for 200 miles, that would be great.
If that car was a plug in hybrid, then it could run 200 miles on battery power and 300 miles on gasoline. That would be a total of 500 miles. More gasoline could be added as needed, for unlimited range.
If there were a lot of them, the motels would provide a way to plug in them for an extra fee. That would make them suitable for driving on vacation, as well as shopping trips and for going to work. That would result in a drastic drop in the amount of gasoline used.
For a trip of less than 200 miles, no gas at all would be used.
So our government should set up a "Crash Program" , Like the Manhattan Project to develop such a battery.

We need to drill for oil where ever there is a good chance of finding oil in the USA.
We should not be buying oil from other countries. We need the independance of having our own oil. We need to keep the money in the USA, instead of having a bigger and bigger trade deficit. We need the money and the energy here.
Why are we selling our oil from Alaska to Japan, and buying our oil from some place else ? ? ?
It is in the best interests of the USA to make that batery.
We must quit depending on undependable oil supplies ! ! ! !
Other sources of energy must also be developed.
